The New Option: Military Boarding Schools

Once upon a time, military boarding schools were the place that frustrated parents sent their out of control teens. Well, that was true once upon a time. Today, military boarding high schools are at the forefront of private school education.

A boys military boarding school has become the institutions that families seek to educate their academically gifted or high achieving children. Unlike traditional public high schools, military boarding schools are designed to motivate and prepare students for a meaningful life. Classes at military boarding schools are traditionally small; therefore students routinely receive almost one on one instruction and personal attention.

Many parents and their teens choose military boarding schools to provide renowned, competitive academic programs based on military organizational precepts intertwined with an intense physical component. Military boarding schools offer students, male and female a varied environment that prepares them to apply to elite military academies like West Point, the Naval Academy or apply to other competitive, highly rated academic institutions.

The very nature of military boarding schools is based on routine and order. Established daily schedules require students to rise early and complete a series of intense physical routines before breakfast that builds not only strong bodies but also sets the tone for the required mental agility necessary for academic success. Students learn how to act proactively and responsively because the institution and its staff work hard to engender trust and motivation. Those perceived inflexible institutions have found the correct balance that allow students to simultaneously thrive while they explore who they are and where their futures might lie.

Although teamwork is a major tenet of most military training environments, leadership, that is, the ability to effectively lead a team is equally important and stressed as a positive role to emulate. Students graduate from military boarding schools with self-confidence and the ability to think for themselves.

The old, anachronistic idea that most teens and their parents conjure when they think about going to a military boarding school is one based on an inaccurate perception that these institutions only operate with strict adherence to inflexible rules. Well, that misperception, like the practice, is in the past and it’s time for everyone to understand that a military boarding high school is academically competitive environment that trains young minds and bodies to become our future leaders.
